O masina merge la vale cu 72 km/h, pe loc drept cu 63 km/h si la deal cu 56 km/h. Masina parcurge distanta din orasul A pana in orasul B in 4 ore. La intoarcere face 4 ore si 40 minute. Aflati distanta dintre cele doua orase.

fie distantele x,y,z respectiv pentru zonele de drum "la vale", "pe drum drept" si "la deal" dintre cele doua orase in sensul A -> B.
Timpul necesar pentru a strabate o distanta s cu viteza v este s/v. De aici avem formulele pentru cele doua drumuri parcurse.
x/72 + y/63 + z/56 = 4 ore
x/56 + y/63 + z/72 = 14/3 ore (4 ore si 40 minute)
prin aducere la acelasi numitor avem mai departe ca
sistemul este echivalent cu :
7x + 8y + 9z = 4 * 7 * 8 * 9
9x + 8y + 7z = (14/3) * 7 * 8 * 9
----------------------------------
16(x + y + z) = (26/3) * 7 * 8 * 9
x + y + z = 273
deci, distanta dintre orase este de 273 de kilometri
